Though primarily interested in sacred music at the beginning of his career, composer and musicologist Miguel Bernal Jiménez turned to classical-inspired pieces, such as this one, toward the end of his life, subtly incorporating and preserving his Mexican and colonial heritage in his compositions. This march represents a departure for Jiménez, as he rarely composed for guitar. This manuscript is beautifully written in black ink on 12 staves per page.
