Rawlinson, a noted historian, supplements his study of Herodotus with abundant notes and appendices. Valuable notes on the geography, ethnography and history of the Eastern nations were contributed to the work by Rawlinson's brother Sir Henry Creswicke Rawlinson, the famous Assyriologist and philologist.
