SIGNED BY EISENHOWER, SIGNED LIMITED FIRST EDITION OF THE WHITE HOUSE YEARS: WAGING PEACE, 1965

EISENHOWER, Dwight D. The White House Years: Waging Peace 1956-1961. New York: Doubleday, 1965. Thick octavo, original tan cloth, cartographic endpapers. $2200.

Signed limited first edition of the second and final volume in Eisenhower's presidential memoirs, number 1167 of 1500 copies signed by Eisenhower, a beautiful copy.

In Waging Peace, the concluding volume in Eisenhower's memoir, The White House Years, he covers decisive meetings with Khrushchev, Nehru, de Gaulle, Nasser and others, and includes his impressions of Lyndon Johnson, JFK and Nixon. "Throughout Eisenhower pictures the White House as a citadel of dispassionate statesmanship and 'common sense' (a favorite phrase) and Congress as a hotbed of political partisanship." Ultimately "Eisenhower succeeds better than he perhaps knew or intended in conveying the essential mood, the central character of his Administration" (New York Times). Containing numerous black-and-white photographic illustrations. Without original acetate, slipcase.

A fine signed copy.
