WONDERFUL LARGE SILVER GELATIN PRINT OF EINSTEIN, SIGNED BY PHOTOGRAPHER LOTTE JACOBI
(EINSTEIN, Albert) JACOBI, Lotte. Photograph signed. Princeton, NJ, 1938 (printed later). Silver gelatin print (11 by 14 inches) signed by Jacobi in pencil on the recto; floated, matted and framed, entire piece measures 16 by 19 inches. $3500.
Gelatin silver print of a relaxed Einstein, pipe in hand, in the living room of his Princeton, NJ home in 1938, this wonderful print characteristically signed by Jacobi in the lower right corner in pencil.
One of the 20th-century's most esteemed photographers, "Lotte Jacobi is best known for her portraits of famous historical personages whom she admired, including Albert Einstein" (Afterimage). Captured here by Jacobi in the living room of his Princeton home in 1938, Einstein had been photographed earlier at the Berlin studio of Jacobi's father and also by Jacobi herself in 1927, before she, like Einstein, fled Germany in the 1930s. One year later Jacobi photographed Einstein for a famous series in Life magazine, and the two remained lifelong friends.
A fine signed print.
