Vintage 1865 carte-de-visite portrait of Robert E. Lee from a photograph by Mathew Brady, boldly signed by Lee on the lower edge of the image, with Brady studio imprints.
This bust-length portrait of Lee, signed by him just beneath the image, was taken toward the end of Lee's life and features him in civilian garb. Both the front and back of the vintage albumen print's card mount have printed notes identifying it as from the studio of Mathew Brady, the great Civil War photographer who revolutionized war photography.
