CIVIL WAR. Passport. No place, 1862. Original printed form, finished by hand, measuring 3-1/2 by 6-1/2 inches. $850.

Original Confederate wartime pass, authorizing passage of the bearer.

The document reads: "Confederate States of America, War Department. Richmond, May 20, 1863. Permission is granted Corpl. Robinson and recruits to visit T—- Sta. upon honor not to communicate in writing or [verbally, for publication, any] fact ascertained, which, if known to the enemy, might be injurious to the Confederate States of America. (Subject to the discretion of the military authorities.) [signed] L. Griswold, Provost Marshall. L.L." On the verso is printed, "I, Corpl. Robinson ——-, do solemnly swear or affirm, that I will bear true faith and yield obedience to the [Con-]federate States of America, and that I will serve them honestly and faithfully against their enemies. Richmond, May 20, 1863."

Fold lines, toning and staining to one section between fold lines, affecting legibility. Very good condition.
