Raghu Rai is one of India’s most distinguished photographers; his photographs have appeared in Time, Life, National Geographic, The New York Times, The Sunday Times, Newsweek, The Independent, and the New Yorker among other places. In 1984, one of his photographs of the Bhopal tragedy was selected as the World Press Photo of the Year. He has said: “A photograph has picked up a fact of life, and that fact will live forever.” This volume includes dozens of photographs of the daily lives of the poor of Calcutta.
