First edition of this study of famine-related diseases in German concentration camps during the Holocaust, with photographic illustrations, figures and charts, inscribed by concentration camp survivor, doctor, and author Paul Thygesen to the key medical adviser during the Nuremberg Trials: "Doctor Leo Alexander with kind regards from Paul Thygesen."

Thygesen was active in the Danish freedom movement and became a victim of Nazi concentration camps upon his capture in August 1944, first undergoing torture at Dagmarhus in Copenhagen before being transferred to the Neuengamme concentration camp. He continued his work as a doctor while in captivity, and a statue was erected in his honor after the war. Recipient Leo Alexander was the key medical adviser during the Nuremberg Trials and a contributing author of the Nuremberg Code, which established guidelines on human experimentation following the war.

Portion of spine partially perished along front joint, with paper replacement and paper reinforcement to inner paper hinge. A bit of toning to extremities of wrappers, tiny chips and minor creasing to corners of front wrapper. An extremely good inscribed copy.
