Handsomely bound editions of the tales and poems by “the Ettrick Shepherd,” with engraved frontispieces and engraved vignette title pages in each volume.

James Hogg (1770-1835) was an impoverished Shepherd whose poetry received the positive attention of Sir Walter Scott. He published extensively—often in Scottish dialect—in Blackwood's Magazine.

Faint marginal dampstaining to a few leaves, bindings quite handsome.
