Beautiful eight-volume set of French translations of esteemed Roman and Greek classics, including versions of the tales of Hero and Leander, Jason and Medea, The Golden Ass, and the Wedding of Peleus and Thetis, finely printed with decorative borders on every page and numerous vignette illustrations, in splendid morocco-gilt by the publisher, Maison Quantin.

This lovely set includes Musaeus Grammaticus' Hero and Leander, Achilles Tatius' Adventures of Leucippe and Clitophon, Apollonius of Rhodes' Jason and Medea, poetry of Anacreon and Sappho, Theocritus' Idylls, Propertius' Elegies, Lucius' The Golden Ass (the only ancient Roman novel in Latin to survive in its entirety), and Catullus' Odes to Lesbia and the Wedding of Peleus and Thetis. The vignette illustrations, many printed in color and some highlighted with gilt, are by Méaulle, Avril, Besnier, and Poirson. Text in French.
