“….THOSE SUBLIME CHADDS FORD YEARS!”: FIRST EDITION OF ANDREW WYETH: A SECRET LIFE, INSCRIBED BY THE AUTHOR TO THE ARTIST’S COUSIN

(WYETH, Andrew) MERYMAN, Richard. Andrew Wyeth: A Secret Life. (New York): HarperCollins, (1996). Octavo, original half black cloth, original dust jacket.

First edition, warmly inscribed by the author to a cousin of Andrew Wyeth, “To Mary Taylor–with gratitude for your warmth to me, and for my sense of touching, through your memories, those sublime Chadds Ford years! Richard Meryman, 20 January 1997.”

Meryman based this biography of Andrew Wyeth, one of the most popular American artists of the 20th century, "on interviews over many years with Wyeth, his family and his inner circle. Bare of printed sources and dependent on dialogue, the book strikingly evokes three generations of a talented, idiosyncratic family" (Publishers Weekly). Illustrated with 16 color plates and 75 black-and-white photographs. Andrew Wyeth lived in Chadds Ford, Pennsylvania, not far from Lancaster County, where his aunt Elizabeth Bockius Sargent and her daughter Mary lived, and whom he frequently visited.

Light soiling to fore-edge. An about-fine inscribed copy.
