INSCRIBED BY WILLIAM WEGMAN
WEGMAN, William. KUNZ, Martin, editor. William Wegman. Paintings, Drawings, Photographs, Videotapes. New York: Harry N. Abrams, (1990). Quarto, original brown cloth, original dust jacket. $300.
First edition, inscribed on the half-title “To Tom, Thanks, Bill,” additionally signed in full, “William Wegman ’97” and with his small original sketch of a dog.
While it featured the photographs of his Weimaraner Man Ray for which he is best known, the exhibition documented in this catalogue, which was first held at the Kunstmuseum Lucerne in 1990, also highlighted Wegman’s work in video, pencil drawing and oil painting. His productions in any medium, however, delight in exhibiting “an essential powerlessness… which can continually be traversed and enjoyed, and from which something can be carried away in the end” (Owens, 157). See McDarrah & McDarrah, 526-28.
A fine inscribed copy.
