"WITH BEST WISHES": FIRST EDITION OF PRELUDE TO INVASION, INSCRIBED BY SECRETARY OF WAR HENRY STIMSON TO HIS FORMER LAW PARTNER

STIMSON, Henry L. Prelude to Invasion. An Account Based Upon Official Reports By Henry L. Stimson, Secretary of War. (Washington): Public Affairs Press, (1944). Octavo, original gilt-stamped burgundy cloth.

First edition of this history of the Second World War between Pearl Harbor and the invasion of Normandy, written from Secretary of War Stimson's official war reports, inscribed by Stimson to one of his former law partners: "To Allison Choate, Esq. with best wishes from Henry L. Stimson."

This book comprises a fascinating collection of official reports on World War II by Henry Stimson, the Secretary of War at the time. The reports, which are supplemented with black-and-white photographic illustrations, cover the war effort from just after Pearl Harbor to D-Day, often including personal details reflecting Stimson's own experiences. Stimson's primary concerns at the time included the progress of the war, troop morale, and British and Russian allies. Without dust jacket. This copy is inscribed by Henry Stimson to his former law partner, Allison Choate. Both Stimson and Choate attended Yale College and Harvard Law School.

Very nearly fine condition.
