First edition of this record of the 1873 annual reunion of the Civil War Union Army of the Tennessee, with a mounted frontispiece photograph of Sherman boldly signed by him, “W.T. Sherman, General.”

The Society of the Army of the Tennessee was organized in 1865 "to keep alive that kindly and cordial feeling which has been one of the characteristics of this army during its career." General Sherman was elected its president in 1869. These proceedings, from its seventh annual meeting, include speeches by Sherman, a poem by Major Charles Mayer and an oration by Major General John Logan, as well as constitution and by-laws, correspondence and brief reports. Manuscript notation to recto of frontispiece stating the book is from the library of General W.E. Strong. Strong was a comrade and friend of Sherman's who was Inspector General and later Chief of Staff of the Army of the Tennessee. He was as brevetted Brigadier General for the Atlanta Campaign.

Cloth lightly rubbed and soiled with light toning to spine, front board gilt bright. A near-fine copy, desirable signed by Sherman.
