"THE PERSON WHO TAKES UP THE GAME UNDER INSTRUCTION WILL IMPROVE AS LONG AS HE PLAYS GOLF": FIRST EDITION OF JAMES SHEPHERD, JR.'S GOLF SHOTS, 1924

SHEPHERD, Jr., James. Golf Shots. A Book for Beginners Describing and Illustrating the Different Strokes in the Game. Hyannis, Massachusetts: James Shepherd, Jr., 1924. Slim octavo, original brown cloth.

First edition of this introductory work on golf strokes, with numerous photographic illustrations showing how to hold and swing clubs expertly to best achieve the strokes discussed in the text.

This book aims to act as a resource to the beginning (or gradually improving) golfer, working methodically through golf strokes to show how they build on each other so that a beginning golfer can easily progress into a skilled intermediate. In this photo-illustrated work, Shepherd also addresses issues such as grip and stance, concentrating on small elements of the game that work together to provide a better and truer swing.

Scattered soiling mainly to preliminaries, cloth quite nice. A near-fine copy.
