“HUSH! HUSH! WHISPER WHO DARES! CHRISTOPHER ROBIN IS SAYING HIS PRAYERS”

MILNE, A.A. (words). FRASER-SIMSON, H. (music). SHEPARD, E.H. (illustrations). Fourteen Songs from "When We Were Very Young." London: Methuen and Ascherberg, Hopwood & Crew, (1924). Slim quarto, original half brown cloth, light brown paper boards, printed cover label.

First trade edition of the first, extremely popular collection of songs based on Milne’s beloved poetry for children, with music by H. Fraser-Simson and illustrations by E.H. Shepard.

Published just a year after When We Were Very Young, these musical settings of poems from that book—among them "Buckingham Palace," "Hoppity," "Market Square" and "Vespers"—proved so successful, Fraser-Simson would continue composing songs based on Milne's lyrics, ultimately writing 67 of them. The book includes Ernest Shepard's delightful line illustrations. Without scarce original dust jacket. Cutler & Stiles, 116.

Interior clean. Light foxing to cover label. Corners lightly worn. A lovely copy in very nearly fine condition.
