The father of the historical novel, Scott "created the Celtic Highlands in the eyes of the whole civilized world. If this be not first-rate power, it may be asked where we are to find it" (Allibone, 1977). With scarce half titles. Worthington 5. Todd & Bowden 112Aa. Early owner signatures to all half titles, title page of Volume II.

Text fine, contemporary binding handsome. A lovely copy.
