After the success of the "Peanuts" books Happiness Is a Warm Puppy, Security Is a Thumb and a Blanket, and I Need All the Friends I Can Get, Schulz created this, his first "Peanuts" Christmas book, predating A Charlie Brown Christmas by a year. Before Happiness is a Warm Puppy, Schulz had published only collected "Peanuts" strips; Happiness, which appeared in 1962, was the first "Peanuts" book to appear in a format of original text and illustrations on colored paper.
