Happiness Is a Warm Puppy

FIRST EDITION OF HAPPINESS IS A WARM PUPPY, INSCRIBED BY SCHULZ AND WITH ORIGINAL DRAWING OF SNOOPY

SCHULZ, Charles M. Happiness Is a Warm Puppy. (San Francisco: Determined Productions, 1962). Small square quarto, original pictorial paper boards, original dust jacket.

First edition of Charlie Brown and the gang’s whimsical (and frequently wise) words on happiness, with 30 “Peanuts” cartoons by Schulz, inscribed “For Roger” and signed by him, with an original drawing of Snoopy on the front free endpaper.

Before Happiness is a Warm Puppy, Schulz had published only collected “Peanuts” strips; this is the first Peanuts book to appear in a format of original text and illustrations, on colored paper. The small volume enjoyed great success, spending 45 weeks on the New York Times best-seller list, reaching as high as the number two spot. With additional gift inscriptions above and below Schulz’ inscription and cartoon.

Interior fine; light toning to binding edges. Light wear to extremities of bright jacket with tape repairs to verso. A near-fine copy.
