"HOW IT ALL SEEMED TO A 'FAR-OUT' CRITIC 40 YEARS AGO!"
ROSENFELD, Paul; and LEIBOWITZ, Herbert. Musical Impressions: Selections from Paul Rosenfeld's Criticism. New York: Hill and Wang, 1969. Octavo, original cloth, original dust jacket. $400.
First edition of this selection from Rosenfeld's work, inscribed by Aaron Copland to fellow composer Phillip Ramey, "For P—From A—How it all seemed to a 'far-out' critic 40 years ago!"
A selection of the writing of Paul Rosenfeld, an influential music critic in the first half of the 20th century, already well-established when he began reviewing the works of the young Copland. The recipient of this copy was Phillip Ramey, a composer and writer who was closely associated with Schuman, Barber, Bernstein, and particularly Copland; he was one of Copland's closest friends.
Book and dust jacket with modest wear. An extremely good copy with a very nice association.
