The art of Frederic Remington— consummate illustrator of the American West—"is notable for its swift action and rendering of character. His Indians are Indians: his Apache is an Apache, his Sioux is a Sioux. His American soldiers in the field are splendid… Though there were delineators of the West and frontier before Frederic Remington … none have surpassed him" (DAB). "If Remington did nothing further, already he has achieved: he has made a page of American history his own" (Owen Wister). Without scarce original cardboard box. Howes R205. Graff 3457. Bookseller ticket.

Interior fresh with only small expertly repaired closed tear to one plate not affecting image, mild soiling to fore-edges. Original full russet reverse calf boards skillfully restored, original endpapers retained.
