The photograph shows Rauschenberg standing in an office, rather eccentrically dressed in a matching red patterned shirt and tie, orange scarf, and green leather jacket, holding a mixed drink in his right hand while reaching around a friend to squeeze one of his eyes closed with the other hand. “One of America’s great modern artists,” Robert Rauschenberg is best known for rejecting the Abstract Expressionism school and embracing a distinctive experimental style often called Neo-Dada (Metropolitan Museum of Art).
