Vintage documentary photograph of the “E. Gest” locomotive, built by E.P. Gould and named for Erasumus Gest, president of the Cincinnati, Wilmington & Zanesville Railroad.

This wonderful large vintage photograph documents the roll-out of the “E. Gest” steam locomotive, with its whistle at full blast. Built around 1857 for the Cincinnati, Wilmington & Zanesville Railroad and named for the company president, Erasmus Gest, it was sold in 1869, together with “the road with all its franchises, real estate, machine shops, depot buildings, and rolling-stock, at auction at the door of the court house in Cincinnati, to Judge Thomas L. Jewett, President of the Pennsylvania Central Company, for the sum of $1,004,000” (Pliny A. Durant). Captioned by hand.

Fine condition, very handsomely framed.
