Large and comprehensive 42-volume set of the writings, sermons, homilies, and letters of the Fathers of the Catholic Church, in English, including 11 volumes by Saint Augustine, 15 volumes by Saint John Chrysostom, and Saint Gregory’s Morals on the Book of Job.
By the 1850s, this set comprised 11 volumes by Saint Augustine (including his Confessions), 15 volumes by Saint John Chrysostom, Archbishop of Constantinople, Saint Cyril of Jerusalem’s Lectures on the Creed, Saint Cyprian’s Works in two volumes, Saint Gregory the Great’s Morals on the Book of Job in four volumes, Saint Athanasius’ Works in three volumes, Tertullian’s Treatises, and Saint Ephraem’s Rhythms on the Nativity, for a total of 38 volumes. The present set includes all of these, with the two volumes of Cyprian’s Works bound in one. This set also includes Saint Cyril of Alexandria’s Works (in two volumes), Saint Irenaeus’ Works, Saint Ambrose’s Letters, and Saint Justin the Martyr’s Works, for a total of 42 volumes.
Endpapers foxed; text generally quite clean; one volume with corner expertly repaired. Vellum bright and fine. An excellent set.
