Song of the Swallows

FIRST EDITION OF SONG OF THE SWALLOWS, SIGNED BY LEO POLITI

POLITI, Leo. Song of the Swallows. New York: Charles Scribner’s Sons, 1949. Quarto, original pictorial green cloth, original dust jacket.

First edition of this Caldecott-winning book, boldly signed by Leo Politi.

Politi was awarded a Caldecott Medal in 1950 for his illustrations in Song of the Swallows. “Writing at a time when few authors noticed the country’s cultural diversity, Politi was delighted by the many different children who lived around him in Los Angeles… His books reflect this multicultural nature of his world” (Silvey, 532). First issue, without “copyright 1948” below illustration on title page. First issue dust jacket, without Caldecott Medal.

Book about-fine, with very minor foxing to endpapers. Price-clipped dust jacket very good, with light wear, some chips, and a few closed tears. A scarce signed copy.
