First trade edition of the 1931 winner of the Pulitzer Prize for history, inscribed in Volume I "For Mr. Aage B. Nilsen with kind regards, John J. Pershing. Sept 1931."

Pershing returned from World War I as America's most famous general. "In that adventure there were many lessons useful to the American people, should they ever again be called to arms, and I felt it a duty to record them as I saw them" (Introduction). Includes conversations and documents which dictated the course of World War I in the European theater. With 32 pages of illustrations from photographs, and ten strategic maps. Preceded by a signed/limited edition the same year. Recipient Aage B. Nilsen was an Air Force pilot who later became Station Commander at Brampton Grange in England during World War II. With two postal stamps and a cancel mark on inscription page.

Books fine, dust jackets unusually bright and near-fine with only a few short closed tears and a bit of toning to spines.
