Thank You, Amelia Bedelia

FIRST EDITION OF THE SECOND BOOK IN THE AMELIA BEDELIA SERIES, INSCRIBED BY PEGGY PARISH

PARISH, Peggy. Thank You, Amelia Bedelia. New York, Evanston, and London: Harper & Row, (1964). Octavo, original pictorial paper boards, original dust jacket.

First edition of this second book in the Amelia Bedelia series, inscribed: “For Cros and George, Don’t blame me—It’s just my nature—Love, Peggy.”

In this second book in the Amelia Bedelia series, Great-Aunt Myra comes to visit and, although Amelia prepares for the visit in a rather distinctive way, she and Great-Aunt Myra get along just fine. “When children first become independent readers, humor is an important ingredient for them, and Peggy Parish is one of the authors to whom they turn…Amelia Bedelia, that wacky literal-minded housekeeper, constantly misinterprets instructions in the dozen or so books about her… Parish seems to know exactly what will tickle children as she plays with the ambiguities of the English language” (Silvey, 504). The person to whom this copy is inscribed, “Cros,” may be Crosby Bonsall, the much-loved children’s book author.

Book fine, bright price-clipped dust jacket near-fine with only slightest wear to extremities and mild toning to spine. A lovely inscribed copy.
