SIGNED AUTOGRAPH MUSICAL QUOTATION FROM POLISH NATIONALIST COMPOSER AND POLITICIAN PADEREWSKI’S CRACOVIENNE FANTASTIQUE
PADEREWSKI, Ignacy J. Autograph musical quotation signed. No place, no date. One sheet of lined music paper with mounted portrait, measuring 6-1/2 by 20 inches. $3900.
Extensive autograph musical quotation of this popular and frequently recorded piano piece by Polish nationalist composer and political figure Ignacy Paderewski, the last of six works comprising his Humoresques de concert, Op. 14, boldly signed by Paderewski.
The 14 measures of piano music have been labeled at the top by Paderewski "Cracovienne Fantastique, op. 14 N. 6." One of his most popular compositions, the Cracovienne Fantastique, from Paderewski's 1887-88 Humoresques de concert had been published separately in 1884 as Krakoviak Fantazja. It is one of the best-known Paderewski pieces, and one of his most successful uses of Polish folk music in a classical medium. In addition to being one of the great pianists and composer, Paderewski is one of the heroes of the Polish nationalist movement. He persuaded Woodrow Wilson to include a paragraph on Polish independence in his famous Fourteen Points, and served as the Polish Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs in 1919, signing the Versailles Treaty as Poland's representative.
A fine piece, suitable for framing.
