"THE PARADE OF SALAMIS REVEALS YET ANOTHER FACE OF THIS ELUSIVE AND PROTEAN CREATOR: HUMOR, MYSTIFICATION, A JOURNEY TO ABSURDIA"

GISSINGER, Hans and OBERLÉ, Gérard. Salamí . [Phoenicia, New York]: Woodstock Editions, (2001). Large folio (12 by 17 inches), original patterned cloth, original shipping carton.

Signed limited edition of this lavish and whimsical photographic homage to the Italian sausage, number 267 of only 500 copies, signed by Hans Gissinger, with his 58 color-printed images of various salamis.

Born in Switzerland, commercial photographer Hans Gissinger began producing experimental works after he moved to New York in 1994. Salamí features lavish full-color "portraits" of 58 cured meats gathered from salumerias across Milan. The text, by Gérard Oberlé, is in part in the style of Roland Barthes, a "Mythology of the sausage." Text in both French and English.
