SCARCE PRESENTATION/ASSOCIATION FIRST EDITION OF LEADERS, INSCRIBED IN THE YEAR OF PUBLICATION BY PRESIDENT NIXON TO INFLUENTIAL FINANCIER, AMBASSADOR AND PHILANTHROPIST WILLIAM BURDEN

NIXON, Richard. Leaders. New York: Warner Books, (1982). Octavo, original half black cloth, original dust jacket.

First trade edition, a scarce presentation/association copy inscribed on the half title in the year of publication by President Nixon to William Burden, an influential financier, philanthropist and Eisenhower's ambassador to Belgium: "To Ambassador Bill Burden—With appreciation for his service to the nation, from Richard Nixon, 1982."

As Eisenhower's vice-president and America's 37th president, Richard Nixon met most world leaders of the latter half of the 20th century. In Leaders, Nixon shares "revealing anecdotes, recalls words of wisdom, and brings to bear his own judgments" about these influential figures. With 32 pages of photographic illustrations. Published the same year as the signed limited edition of 2500 copies. "A great-great-grandson of the railroad baron Cornelius Vanderbilt, Burden founded the Wall Street investment company that bears his name," and was appointed by Eisenhower to serve as U.S. Ambassador to Belgium from 1959-61. He also was a long-time president, trustee and chairman of New York's Museum of Modern Art, was a director of Lockheed Aircraft and other leading companies, and was an influential member of the Republican National Finance Committee (New York Times).

Only faint rubbing to dust jacket. Fine condition.
