“AL CAPONE, CRIMINAL CZAR OF A CAPTIVE CITY”: FIRST EDITION OF THE UNTOUCHABLES
NESS, Eliot, and FRALEY, Oscar. The Untouchables. New York: Julian Messner, (1957). Octavo, original red cloth, original dust jacket.
First edition of the story behind the team that brought down Al Capone, basis for the 1950s television series and the 1987 Oscar-winning film starring Kevin Costner and Sean Connery.
Headed by the 26-year-old prohibition agent Eliot Ness, his team of ten men withstood death threats and bribery attempts from Al Capone, working over two years to put Capone behind bars and proving to the powerful gangster that they truly were “the untouchables.” Their story became the basis for the popular television series starring Robert Stack and the 1987 Brian DePalma film, with screenplay by David Mamet, that won co-star Sean Connery his first and only Oscar.
Book fine. Very light wear to extremities of bright, price-clipped dust jacket with damp staining to verso only. An about-fine copy.
