Musset's La Confession d'un Enfant du Siècle was first published in French in 1836. Musset "represents youthful romanticism in his passion, independence, and melancholy" (Dolbow, 220). "A remarkable early novel of psychological analysis by Musset; partly autobiographical, in that it was inspired by his unhappy liaison with George Sand" (Harvey & Heseltine, 150).
