FIRST EDITION OF HISTORY OF WARFARE, SIGNED BY MONTGOMERY, WITH LIMITED EDITION ALAMEIN MILITARY COVER SIGNED BY AIR VICE-MARSHALL F.D. HUGHES

MONTGOMERY, (Bernard Law), Field-Marshal the Viscount Montgomery of Alamein. A History of Warfare. London: Collins, (1968). Quarto, original red cloth, pictorial endpapers, original dust jacket. Housed in a custom clamshell box.

First edition of Montgomery’s study of warfare, signed on the half title by him, accompanied by a limited edition military cover commemorating the centenary of Montgomery's birth, number 24 of 56 signed by Air Vice-Marshall F.D. Hughes of the 600 Squadron.

In this thorough examination of man's tendency, ability and need to make war, Montgomery traces the history of conflict from ancient battles to atom bombs. Richly illustrated with photographic plates, many printed in color. Numerous maps of military campaigns. First trade edition, precedes the signed limited edition of the following year. This signed copy is accompanied by a limited edition military cover (special postmarked envelope; 56 total) commemorating General Montgomery's birth and signed by Air Vice-Marshall F.D. Hughes of the prestigious 600 Squadron and a member of the Desert Air Force from 1941-43.

Slight bleeding from red postmark to military cover not affecting signature. Book fine, with nearly price-clipped dust jacket. A lovely signed copy with additional Alamein memorabilia.
