“I SHALL RETURN”: MACARTHUR MEMORIAL FOUNDATION EDITION OF MACARTHUR’S REMINISCENCES, ONE OF 1000 COPIES

MACARTHUR, Douglas. Reminiscences. New York: McGraw-Hill, (1964). Octavo, original beige cloth, original slipcase.

MacArthur Memorial Foundation Edition of MacArthur’s autobiography, number 99 of 1000 copies signed on a tipped-in leaf by Jean MacArthur below a facsimile signature of her husband Douglas MacArthur, who died suddenly before this special limited edition was issued.

“General Douglas MacArthur’s career was one of the longest and most controversial of any American military figure, including active service as a general from 1918 to 1951. His genius as a leader was demonstrated most lucidly in his pioneering reforms as West Point superintendent; his bold and imaginative campaigns, with minimum logistical support, during the war against Japan; and, perhaps most important, his enlightened administration of the Japanese occupation” (ANB). MacArthur Memorial Foundation Edition, a special limited edition signed by Jean MacArthur on the same page as a facsimile signature by Douglas MacArthur, who died before this edition could be published: issued the same year as the limited edition signed by him. With color frontispiece photographic portrait, 40 pages of photographic illustrations (eight in color) and seven map plates (one double-page). As issued without dust jacket.

A fine copy.
