FIRST EDITION OF LIONNI'S FIRST BOOK, LITTLE BLUE AND LTTLE YELLOW
LIONNI, Leo. Little Blue and Little Yellow. (New York: Ivan Obolensky, 1959). Small quarto, original pictorial paper boards, original pictorial dust jacket.
First edition of Lionni's first book, "an unconventional picture book… in which the `characters' in a story about rejection are simply blobs of color" (Carpenter and Pritchard, 313).
The idea for this book came to Lionni while he was telling a story to his grandchildren. "He picked up a few sheets of colored paper and created the characters… The children were fascinated; and in retrospect, so was Lionni." Child’s name on title page.
Book very good; dust jacket with wear to extremities and half-inch chips to spine ends. Scarce.
