“HOPE ALL YOUR SEASONS IN 1992 WILL BE GOOD ONES”: FIRST EDITION OF DIFFERENT SEASONS, INSCRIBED BY STEPHEN KING

KING, Stephen. Different Seasons. New York: Viking, (1982). Octavo, original half blue cloth, original dust jacket.

First edition of King’s collection of four novellas, “among his best written works,” featuring three stories later adapted to the screen as The Shawshank Redemption, Apt Pupil and Stand by Me, inscribed: “For L—— S—— —Hope all your seasons in 1992 will be good ones—Stephen King 4/21/92.”

The four novellas in this volume, written from 1975-80 and published here for the first time, echo “many of the concerns of King’s tales of the supernatural and are among his best written works” (Barron, 269). The stories are so distinctive in tone, “you have to compare King to Twain, Poe—with a generous dash of Philip Roth and Will Rogers thrown in” (Los Angeles Times). The films based on three of the these novellas, The Shawshank Redemption (1994, from “Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption”), Apt Pupil (1998, from the story of the same title) and Stand by Me (1986, from “The Body”), are among the most critically-praised of King adaptations. Fantasy and Horror 6-197.

A very nearly fine signed copy.
