THE BACHMAN BOOKS, INSCRIBED BY STEPHEN KING AS BOTH HIMSELF AND HIS PSEUDONYM

KING, Stephen. The Bachman Books: Four Early Novels by Stephen King. New York: New American Library, (1985). Thick octavo, original half black cloth, original dust jacket.

First omnibus edition of four early novels written by King under his “Richard Bachman” pseudonym, inscribed by the author, “For Joe—with best wishes, Richard Bachman (aka Stephen King), 4/26/94.”

“Two of these novels, perhaps even all four, might have been published under my own name if I had been a little more savvy about the publishing business or if I hadn’t been preoccupied in the years they were written with first trying to get myself through school and then to support my family… I only published them (and am allowing them to be republished now) because they are still my friends; they are undoubtedly maimed in some ways, but they still seem very much alive to me” (Introduction). Includes Rage (1977), The Long Walk (1979), Roadwork (1981) and The Running Man (1982). The Running Man was adapted to the screen in 1987, starring Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Dust jacket slightly rubbed, book fine. A desirable inscribed copy.
