Burden and the Glory

SIGNED BY JACQUELINE KENNEDY

(KENNEDY, John F.) NEVINS, Allan, editor. The Burden and the Glory. New York: Harper & Row, (1964). Octavo, original black cloth, original dust jacket. Housed in a custom clamshell box.

First edition of this collection of President Kennedy's powerful speeches and public statements, published only months after his assassination, signed on the half title by Jacqueline Kennedy.

With its title drawn from the closing phrase of Kennedy's January 11, 1962 State of the Union Message, this volume was published mere months after his assassination. A collection of his major public statements and speeches, it features his second and third State of the Union addresses and an undelivered speech for his fateful trip to Dallas. As noted by President Lyndon Johnson in his foreword, "the speeches and statements of John Fitzgerald Kennedy are among the richest legacies he left us."

Book about-fine, dust jacket with a bit of soiling to rear panel, bright and near-fine.
