First hardcover edition of the novelization of Poltergeist, based on the screenplay by Steven Spielberg, signed by author James Kahn on the title page.

Regarding the creation of this book based on the hit 1982 film, doctor and author James Kahn said "Spielberg gave me pretty free rein to add new material, so I drew on personal experiences researching ESP in the laboratory, among other things, to add about 50% new story to the novelization. Steven later told me it was the best novelization of any of his movies." His success with Poltergeist led to several more novelizations: Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, The Goonies, and Return of the Jedi. This American Book Club printing was the only hardcover edition published in the United States; the first U.K. hardcover edition was issued in the same year. With printing code N01 on page 182.
