"YO LA REYNA": SIGNED BY QUEEN ISABELLA OF SPAIN, DOCUMENT INSTRUCTING HER CHAMBERLAIN TO SUPPLY A QUANTITY OF BLACK SATIN FOR THE USE OF HER DAUGHTER, CATHERINE OF ARAGON, FUTURE QUEEN OF ENGLAND AND FIRST WIFE OF HENRY VIII

(ISABELLA, Queen of Spain). Manuscript document signed. Framed with portrait. Granada: December 15, 1500. Single quarto sheet, manuscript in secretarial hand on recto, signed by Queen Isabella, measures 8-1/2 by 11-1/2 inches. Floated, matted and finely framed with reproduction of engraved portrait, entire piece measures 25 by 21 inches.

Lovely official manuscript document from 1500 signed by Queen Isabella of Spain "Yo la Reyna," ordering her Chamberlain Sancho de Paredes to supply two and a half yards of black satin for the use of her daughter, Doña Catalina, who would become known as Catherine of Aragon, Henry VIII's first wife, Queen of England from 1509-33. Finely framed with a portrait of Isabella.

Written in a clear Spanish court hand, headed at the top "La Reyna," endorsed "Por mandado de la Reyna" (by the order of the Queen) and countersigned by Gaspar de Trizio, royal secretary. This is an order from the Queen addressed to her Chamberlain, Sancho de Paredes, instructing him to hand over two and a half yards of black satin for the use of the Infante (the Queen's daughter), Doña Catalina, who of course would go on to become known in the English-speaking world as Catherine of Aragon, first wife of Henry VIII and Queen of England from 1509-33. A receipt is to be obtained from Francisca de Torres, servant of the Infante. This receipt, which follows at the foot, is signed by Juan de Tabera. Tabera was asked to sign the document by Francisca de Torres because she herself was unable to write even her own name. Both the order and the receipt are dated December 15, 1500. The order is written from Granada. The queen's signature ("Yo la Reyna": I the Queen) is followed by that of her secretary, Gaspar de Trizio. Endorsed in several hands on verso.

Fine condition, beautifully framed.
