LOVELY ILLUMINATED INITIAL "B" FROM A FRENCH MISSAL, CIRCA 1475-1500

(ILLUMINATED LEAF). Illuminated Initial. France, circa 1475-1500. Single vellum leaf (4-1/2 by 4-1/2 inches), illuminated in red, blue, white, black, and gold inks inks; handsomely matted and framed, entire piece measures 9-1/4 by 9-1/4 inches.

Lovely illuminated initial from a French missal, circa 1475-1500, scribed as a gold "B" on a floriated red and white ground with a left border of gilt buds and acanthus leaves.

This illuminated leaf is from a French illuminated missal, circa 1475-1500. The recto includes a very large letter "B" in gold on a red ground with a stylized design of white flowers and acanthus leaves. There is also a border along the left edge featuring blue acanthus leaves and gilt buds on a black-speckled background.
