OUR EVEREST ADVENTURE, SIGNED BY THREE MEMBERS OF THE 1953 EVEREST EXPEDITION

HUNT, John. Our Everest Adventure. Leicester: Brockhampton Press, 1954. Square octavo, original pictorial cloth, original dust jacket.

First edition of this pictorial record of the 1953 Everest expedition, with over 130 photographic illustrations, in original dust jacket, signed by three members of the 1953 Everest expedition: John Hunt, George Lowe, and George Band.

The 1953 British Expedition to Mount Everest was the eighth in 30 years to attempt Everest. On May 29th, 1953 Sir Edmund Hillary and guide Tenzing Norgay at last stood at the summit; it was a culminating moment in mountaineering history, and one of the great achievements of human stamina and will. Our Everest Adventure was written by Sir John Hunt, the leader of the expedition, who described it as "primarily a pictorial record, designed to bring to life the story as I attempted to describe it in The Ascent of Everest. The words are the same as those I wrote in that book; it is, in fact, a shorter version brought to life by photographs" (from the Foreword). Tiny bookseller ticket.

Book about-fine, dust jacket extremely good with light foxing and mild rubbing and toning to extremities. An attractive multi-signed copy.
