“IT IS IN MY SEQUENCING… THAT I CREATE POETIC STRUCTURE”

HEATH, Dave. Extempore: David Heath, Reflections & Ruminations on Art & Personal History. (Toronto): Lumiere, 1988. Tall slim octavo, original half beige cloth and gray paper boards. $1800.

Signed limited edition of Heath’s philosophy of photography, number 88 of 176 copies signed by Heath, with two mounted gelatin-silver prints from copy negatives and a folding facsimile of Heath’s thumbnail layout for Infinity.

Heath's pictures "reveal compassion and understanding, penetration and a masterly use of the medium" (Jacob Deschin). In Heath's words: "For me the act of photographing is no more than making notes, diaristic notes that come out of engagement with the world. It is my sequencing of photographs that I create poetic structure, a connective linkage, not chorological or narrative in development such as a photo-essay, but emotional in development."

Fine condition.
