COLLECTION OF ARTISTIC POLAROIDS, WITH AN ORIGINAL SIGNED PHOTOGRAPH BY OLIVIA PARKER

(POLAROID) GRUBER, L. Fritz, editor. Selections 1 from Polaroid Collection. (Cambridge, Massachusetts: Polaroid Corporation, 1982). Quarto, original white leatherette, mounted original Polaroid, original white lucite frame. $950.

First edition of this compilation of Polaroid photographs by recognized photographers of our time, with an original cover-mounted limited edition photograph, number 44 of only 56 copies, signed by Olivia Parker, in original lucite frame.

“In 1947 a radical new photographic technology was to change the field when scientist Edwin H. Land introduced the first instant photographic process. Explaining the importance of his discovery, Land stated, ‘The process must be concealed from— nonexistent for— the photographer who, by definition, need think of the art in taking and not in making photographs… Just as photography provided a new vision of how the world can be engaged, instant photography created its own vocabulary of artistic innovation” (Deborah Klochko). Drawn entirely from the Polaroid Collection, this selection of images explores the creativity and experimentation of instant photography through the works of 56 artists, including Foncuberta, Vogt and Wegman. Fritz Gruber’s editorial work serves to document the output of Polaroids by the recognized photographers of our time. A splendid sourcebook. Text in German, English and French. The original limited edition Polaroid mounted on the cover is signed and numbered 44 of 56 by Olivia Parker, famous for her ephemeral still life constructions (as here) and her innovative experiments with the possibilities of light.

A fine copy, with only a few small abrasions to original binding.
