William Goldman’s tense psychological thriller about a failed magician was filmed in 1978 by director Richard Attenborough, with Anthony Hopkins in the lead role. Goldman, who received an earlier Edgar Award in 1967 for Harper (1966), his screenplay adaptation of Ross MacDonald’s The Moving Target (1949), notably earned his second Edgar in 1979 for his screenplay of Magic.
