“‘MUST READING’ FOR EVERYONE—FROM THE PRESIDENT TO THE PRIVATE CITIZEN—WHO IS CONCERNED WITH THE FUTURE OF AMERICA” (RONALD REAGAN): FREE TO CHOOSE, SIGNED BY MILTON AND ROSE FRIEDMAN
FRIEDMAN, Milton, and FRIEDMAN, Rose. Free to Choose. A Personal Statement. New York and London: Harcourt Brace Jovanovich, circa 1981. Octavo, original half black cloth, original dust jacket.
Later printing of this persuasive argument for the free market by Nobel Prize-winning economist Milton Friedman and his wife, acclaimed economist Rose Friedman, based on the groundbreaking PBS series Free to Choose, signed by both on the half-title.
This work was based on a ten-part PBS documentary series in which Milton Friedman and his wife, economist Rose Friedman, attempted to explain to the public why intrusive government was dangerous and why a free competitive economy was essential to maintaining a free society. Instead of using a script, Friedman “visited” a number of historical events and spoke almost completely extemporaneously about them, using only a brief outline of the topics he was to address in each part of the series. After a transcript of the program came out, Milton and Rose Friedman developed this book, intending to explore, in depth, America’s greatest problems in government and economics and to present ideas for change. The first edition was published in 1980; this is the 11th printing, designated as “K” on the copyright page.
Book fine; light edge wear to bright, price-clipped dust jacket. A fine copy.
