Henry Fonda followed his critically acclaimed performance in Broadway's Mister Roberts (1948-51) by teaming again with famed producer/agent Leland Hayward for Tony Award-winning playwright Paul Osborn's adaptation of the 1949 novel by John Marquand, widely considered his "best book" (Atlantic). Point of No Return premiered on Broadway in December 1951, earning high praise as "intelligent and interesting… an impressive accomplishment" (New Yorker). On completing its Broadway run in November 1952, stars Fonda and Leora Dana accompanied the play to Chicago's Erlanger Theatre in January 1953. Bruccoli & Clark, 245. Book with four photogravure plates of the original Broadway production, which won a Tony Award for co-star John Cromwell.
