"CRUISE IN FLORIDA'S ENCHANTED WATERS, WHERE THE TROPICS WEAVE THEIR STRONGEST SPELL": FIRST EDITION OF THE FLORIDA INTRACOASTAL WATERWAY FROM THE ST. JOHN'S RIVER TO MIAMI, FLORIDA, 1935, IN ORIGINAL EMBOSSED CLOTH

(FLORIDA). The Florida Intracoastal Waterway from the St. John's River to Miami, Florida. [Tallahassee: Commissioners Of The Florida Inland Navigation District, 1935]. Slim folio (9-1/4 by 14-1/4 inches), original embossed pictorial yellow cloth. $550.

First edition of this richly color-illustrated promotional book released just after the completion of the Florida Intracoastal Waterway, in original embossed pictorial cloth.

This lush guide celebrates the completion of the Florida Intracoastal Waterway in 1935 in just over a dozen pages of maps (one folding), color-illustrated views, photographs, and informative text on subjects ranging from bridge crossings to facilities and points of interest. Authorized by Congress in 1919 and maintained by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, "Florida's Intracoastal Waterway system runs along the Sunshine State, providing boaters with extraordinary ports of call. The Intracoastal Waterway is a 3,000-mile waterway along the Atlantic and Gulf coasts of the United States. Some lengths consist of natural inlets, salt-water rivers, bays, and sounds; others are man-made canals. The Florida Intracoastal Waterway system provides a navigable route along its length without many of the hazards of travel on the open sea" (Florida Nature).

Only a few faint spots of soiling to interior, a couple small stains and toning to original cloth, minor rubbing to extremities. A near-fine copy.
