RÊVERIE, INSCRIBED BY DEBUSSY TO THE ARRANGER
DEBUSSY, Claude. Rêverie. Transcrite pour Violin et Piano par Alberto Bachmann ou Violincelle et Piano par F. Ronchini. Paris: E. Fromont, 1914. Folio, original self wrappers, unbound as issued; pp. 6.
Early edition of the piano-violin score, inscribed by Debussy on the front cover to the arranger Ferdinando Ronchini, “pour F. Ronchini, avec mon sincere compliment. Claude Debussy. Juillet-1914.”
Written in 1880-81, Rêverie is an early Debussy piece from his student days at the Paris Conservatoire. “The very beautiful principal melody of this piece should have sufficed to silence the numerous critics who denied that Debussy wrote, or could write, a melody!” (Schmitz, The Piano Works of Claude Debussy, 58). Ownership stamp of the Société des Auteurs to title page.
Outer bifolio split at seam. A few tiny tears to fore-edge. A wonderful presentation copy in excellent condition.
