BEAUTIFUL COPY OF DALÍ: A STUDY OF HIS ART-IN-JEWELS, BOLDLY SIGNED BY SALVADOR DALÍ

(DALÍ, Salvador). Dalí. A Study of his Art-in-Jewels. The Collection of the Owen Cheatham Foundation. Greenwich, Connecticut: New York Graphic Society, 1965. Folio (9 by 11 inches), original half black cloth, original pictorial slipcase.

Second edition of this survey of the Owen Cheatham collection of Dalí jewelry, with photographic portrait of Dalí and 27 mounted color photographic plates depicting pieces of jewelry designed by Dalí and executed by Alemany & Co., boldly signed across the entire front blank: "Salvador Dalí 1967."

The Owen Cheatham Foundation's collection of Dalí jewelry was collected by Celeste Wickliffe Cheatham, the wife of Owen Cheatham (the founder of Georgia-Pacific). Wickliffe Cheatham managed to secure 37 pieces beginning with an initial 22 purchased from American millionaire Cummins Catherwood, now owned by the Gala-Salvador Dalí Foundation and permanently housed at the Dalí Museum in Figueres, Spain. This catalog features 31 pieces of the jewelry, each with a brief Dalí caption about it. Also included are a Foreword by A. Hyatt Mayor, the curator of prints at the Met; an introduction by Dalí; and a descriptive index of the jewelry featured. The first edition was published in 1959.

A fine copy.
